Man dies after head on crash in La Porte County

LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. – The Indiana State Police is investigating a deadly crash involving a tractor-trailer and a passenger vehicle that happened in the eastbound lanes of I-80 on Monday near mile marker 40 in La Porte County.

57-year-old Richard Reese of La Porte was driving westbound in a white 2000 Ford Ranger in the eastbound lanes of I-80, crashing head on into a 2017 Freightliner tractor-trailer.

The Freightliner came to a rest in the median, while the Ford Ranger crossed across the median before coming to a rest in the left lane of the westbound lanes.

The LaPorte Counter Coroner pronounced Reese dead at the scene.

Authorities notified Reese’s family of his death.

The driver of the freightliner was 28-year-old Ivan Dimitrovski of Crown Point. He was not injured.

The freightliner was carrying approximately 20,000 lbs. of bread.

Toxicology results are pending.

The incident is under investigation.
