Larry Bird parts ways with Indianapolis Pacers

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Larry Bird is officially leaving the Indiana Pacers.

Bird made the announcement today.

I don't think this should be a surprise, because last year, I was going to walk out, cause I knew the franchise was headed in the right direction," Bird said.

The three time NBA MVP said that health reasons played into his decision to leave the organization.

"I just think its time.  Sometimes, it's just time to go," Bird said.

He says that he has been having back problems and may need shoulder surgery.

He's been with the Pacers since 1997.
