ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- The St. Joe County Public Library announced the LaSalle Branch will close for a year for renovations to enhance the facilities to better serve the community.

The branch will close on May 11 and reopen in spring 2026.

Officials say planned renovations include new flexible spaces, as well as a refreshed interior and exterior design, ensuring patrons enjoy modern, inviting areas for reading, studying, and community activities.

“We are thrilled to embark on this renovation and deliver an improved library experience for our neighbors,” said Stephanie Murphy, Executive Director of St. Joe County Public Library. “While we recognize the temporary closure may be inconvenient, we appreciate the community’s patience and look forward to unveiling a modern LaSalle Branch that will better serve our patrons for years to come.”

The plan will add 2,000 square feet which will serve as a community art studio, lounge, and reservable meeting space.

Officials say the plan will also include renewed landscaping to enhance the outdoor space around the branch. The new landscaping will include the planting of native flowers, grasses, and shrubs to be enjoyed by patrons and attract pollinators like hummingbirds, butterflies, and moths.

The library's interior amenities will include new furniture, paint, carpet, and lighting.

The transformed children’s play area will be travel themed due to the proximity of this branch to the airport and commuter train.

In the meantime, library officials say residents can use the Western Branch as an alternative.
