SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Work begins on the renovation of LaSalle Park after a $2 million in funds from the City of South Bend for improvements.
After community input from 2021, Mayor Muller aims to "create a more vibrant space for the community and neighbors," he said, within LaSalle Park.
The west-side park, located on the intersection of W. Washington and N. Falcon, will receive improvements to its accessibility, play areas and picnic areas including:
- New walking paths through the park to connect to existing pedestrian routes and the surrounding neighborhood
- A roller-skating loop with unique sloped features
- Additional pavilion and picnic areas next to the parking lot- large enough to support events and family gatherings
- A centrally located large restroom and picnic area
- New shaded seating areas at the Charles Black Center patio and throughout the park
- 61 new trees
- Remodeled basketball courts
Other improvements within the building include wayfinding and signage, audio improvements and interactive art.
Work on the park is projected to be completed by the end of the year.
