Last taste of freezing temperatures likely Thursday morning

ELKHART, Ind. - Clouds hung on longer than anticipated Wednesday across Michiana.

Temperatures struggled to get very far into the 40s during the afternoon, making for a chilly but beautiful scene at Wellfield Botanic Gardens in Elkhart.

As Michiana finally sheds the cloud cover Wednesday evening, attention turns to temperatures Thursday morning. Morning lows could fall to slightly below freezing, depending on cloud cover and wind speed.

Typically, our area sees its last freeze during the last week of April.

Frost can hang on slightly longer, with the average last frost, with temperatures at or below 36 degrees, occurring during the first week of May.

Most plants should make it through Thursday morning just fine, but sensitive vegetation and potted plants should be brought inside or covered for the night, if possible.
