Law enforcement arrest Dowagiac-area man wanted in three counties
CASS COUNTY, Mich. - Detectives with the Michigan State Police Southwest Enforcement Team and state troopers arrested a man Wednesday who is wanted in three counties, according to SWET detectives.
On Wednesday, detectives and troopers tried to stop a wanted fugitive in Dowagiac.
Instead of stopping, the driver, identified as 31-year-old George Lawrence Tovey III of the Dowagiac area, allegedly started a chase with law enforcement that ended in a field in Silver Creek Township.
Tovey resisted briefly before being arrested on several outstanding felony warrants out of Cass and Berrien counties and Lake County, Indiana, according to reports.
In addition to his warrants, law enforcement will seek the following charges against Tovey:
- Possession of crystal meth
- Maintaining a drug house
- Fleeing and eluding
- Resisting and obstructing
- Possession of a dangerous weapon
- Assault with a deadly weapon
After Tovey's arrest, law enforcement, including the MSP Emergency Support Team, executed a search warrant in the 54000 block of Estates Lane and found methamphetamine and other contraband, according to reports.
They also arrested a 30-year-old Dowagiac woman on the charge of possession of crystal meth.
Her identity is being withheld pending arraignment.
