Lawmakers approve funding for road construction

LAKEVILLE, Ind. -- More money is coming back to Michiana for road construction.

The North Central Chambers of Commerce celebrated a house bill that will return more than $9-million to our area each year to fix roads.

The group asked lawmakers to redirect highway funding from ISP and the BMV as well as some of the state gas tax that was not being returned to roads.

"What we've been saying for a couple of years at least is - the money is out there. It's being collected already, it's just being diverted elsewhere. We need to bring it back to the roads, that is where it will be best spent," said President of Greater Elkhart Chamber of Commerce Kyle Hannon.

The chamber has fought for this funding change for ten years.
