List of Juneteenth celebrations
A number of events commemorating Juneteenth will be held across Michiana this week.
Elkhart County
A Juneteenth celebration will be held at Canaan Baptist Church, 933 Fieldhouse Ave., from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. on June 19. The event will feature guest speakers, black-owned vendors from across Michiana, a live DJ and other performances, fireworks, and more. A COVID-19 vaccine clinic administering the one-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine will take place at the event from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. No appointment is needed. South Bend Indiana Black Expo
The South Bend Chapter Indiana Black Expo will host their 22nd annual Juneteenth Celebration at LaSalle Park, 3419 W. Washington St., from noon to 5 p.m. on June 19. The family-friendly event will feature spoken word, musical, and dance entertainment from local artists as well as a performance from Grammy-winner Rudy Currence. Guests can also enjoy a variety of food, merchandise, and informational vendors at the event. Learn more
SBCIBE will also host a Sunday Celebration from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on June 20 at New Birth Christian Ministries, 747 Harrison St.
Black Lives Matter South Bend
Black Lives Matter South Bend and Legendary Era will host a free Juneteenth Celebration at Howard Park from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. on June 19. The event will feature a car show, kids’ activities, a number of vendors, a basketball tournament, and more. Click here for tickets. Learn more
The Garage Arcade Bar
The Garage Arcade Bar will host a Juneteenth Celebration in South Bend on June 19 from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. The celebration will feature performances from Ecso Izso, Reminisce X, Quentin Washington, GxldSoulRebel, Blkk.J, and Heyzeus. The Rico Suaze Food Truck will be parked outside. Cover is $10. Learn more
Sin City Motorcycle Club & Hoodrat Riders
The two groups will host a Juneteenth Celebration on June 19 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. for families and at 8 p.m. for adults ages 21 and older at 55057 Mayflower Road. Guests can enjoy food, drinks, and music. Learn more
Berrien County
A Juneteenth celebration will be held in Benton Harbor on June 18 and 19. Festivities begin Friday with Arts in the Park from 6 p.m. to 9p.m. in the Downtown Arts District. Celebrations include vendors, music, and education. The celebration continues on Saturday with a parade at 1 p.m. in the Whirlpool parking lot (Riverview Drive/West Main Street), followed by a celebration in Dwight P. Mitchell Park from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday’s festivities include guest speakers, musical performances, and a number of vendors.
