Live fire training at South Bend Airport

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Wednesday morning the South Bend Airport held live fire training.

The annual training exercises were held by the St Joseph County Airport Authority's Department of Public Safety.

The burns and exercises allow rescue crews to practice those important skills for fighting liquid fuel fires.

"It's just important to work with the trucks, equipment. Inside the truck is almost like a video game with all the controls, joysticks and stuff. So the operators need to be very confident with that," said Chief of Public Safety Mike Ornat.

The importance of Wednesday's training is to be familiar with the trucks and equipment so they are ready for the real thing.
