Local children get to Shop with a Hero

The St. Joseph County Police Department and Meijer teamed up with CASA to buy toys for kids. 30 children got to shop with local police officers.

"We're doing shop with a cop, we do it for the kids, make sure they have a good Christmas," said Todd Shepherd with the St. Joseph County Police Department. "We get satisfaction out of this. It's good to come out here and see everyone having a good time. Make sure they have a good time, just makes you feel good that you can do something for the children."

"It's an annual Program we do called Christmas with Cops. It gives us a chance for the county police to take out some kids who have been in some difficult situations or maybe some underprivileged situations," said Bill Thompson, Assistant Chief, St. Joseph County Police.

"It just warms my heart to see how much they appreciate everything," said JR Racz, a Meijer employee.

"It's kind of neat to see our officers, it kind of brings out the kid in all of them," Thompson said. "We think it's just one thing that we can do to kind of make sure that folks remember that we're a part of this community and we care about it in a lot of different ways and in the holiday season this is a nice way for us to show it."
