Local crews headed South to assist with Hurricane Helene response

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Crews from across Michiana have safely made it to their bases along the coast.
A crew made up of South Bend, Goshen, and Mishawaka Firefighters left with a cache of rescue equipment and boats.
The trained individuals are members of the Indiana River Rescue team and are specially trained to help assist with water rescue efforts.
Also, among those crews headed South 180 I&M workers with 40 vehicles as well as 5 members of Mishawaka’s Utilities Electric Division to help restore power and rebuild infrastructure.
South Bend Fire Department says they plan to keep the public updated on their crews through their social media.
