ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. – A local detour has been added for motorists to avoid the S.R. 23/Eddy Street closure between Fellows Street and the south side of Jefferson Boulevard.

This detour is for those who live or work in the area.

The route follows Michigan Street/U.S. 31 and Colfax Avenue/U.S. 20.

Semi trucks and other large vehicles should still use the official detour that follows Michigan Street/U.S. 31, the U.S. 20 Bypass, and S.R. 331.

Traffic going northeast on S.R. 23 can take the right lane and continue on Sample Street before a closure prior to the ramps at Lincoln Way.

S.R. 23 is closed to widen the road and add other features to increase pedestrian safety and reduce traffic congestion near Jefferson Intermediate School.

The ramps at S.R. 23 and Lincoln Way/S.R. 933 and at S.R. 23 and Mishawaka Avenue are also closed.

The road and ramps will be open before the start of the 2021-2022 school year but with some possible lane closures through late August.

Work on S.R. 23 between Michigan Street and South Bend Avenue and intersection work at S.R. 23 and South Main Street is expected to last through late August.

Please drive carefully and stay alert in work zones. Allow extra time when driving through this area.
