Local firefighters rescue feline friends from hairy situations

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- The South Bend Fire Department and Penn Township Fire Department both rescued feline friends trapped in trees this spring.
On April 9, Penn Fire responded to a citizen assist and arrived to find a concerned homeowner with their cat stuck high up in a tree.
The crew said it’s not every day they actually get called to rescue a cat from a tree.
After a quick assessment, the crew safely removed tree limbs, and the cat was brought down with no injuries to the owner's relief.
Thursday morning, SBFD responded to a call for a cat in a tight spot.
The report states a curious cat wedged itself deep in the "V" of a tree trunk and couldn’t get out on its own.
Fire officials say with some careful teamwork and a little patience, the cat was safely freed.
SBFD stated, "No call is too small when it comes to helping our community!"
