Local food pantry seeks community's help with annual turkey drive
MIDDLEBURY, Ind. -- Middlebury Food Pantry officially kicked off its Thanksgiving Turkey Drive and invites the community to join in the spirit of kindness this November.
A $25 donation to the pantry helps make sure one family enjoys a delicious meal on Thanksgiving.
The more you donate, the more families you can help!
Northridge Middle School came up with the idea years ago, and students will be giving out the first 40 turkey dinners to families on distribution day.
Last year, the pantry was able to make dinner possible for around 200 families.
Staff and volunteers are raising the bar even higher this year, hoping to serve 250-300 families.
Overall, the pantry helped more than 6,200 families for the whole year of 2022.
Donations can be made in cash or through PayPal. You can donate at this link, just make sure you specify it’s for the turkey drive in the memo.
This is just one of the many resources the pantry efforts each year.
It also offers refills on laundry bottles of detergent up to 46 ounces, and other cleaning supplies are available too.
For the kids, volunteers make kids packs with candy and fun treats for kids.
They also make birthday bags, with goodies and gifts for any kid celebrating a birthday.
Kids books are also unlimited and free to take.
Volunteers also pack bags of food and other resources for seniors and disabled neighbors. Those get dropped off right to their doors.
While the pantry is located in Middlebury, these services can benefit anyone in the Michiana area.
It relies on volunteers to keep operations running smoothly -- and says they usually have a harder time finding help after the holidays.
