MISHAWAKA, Ind. —- On Monday, a local organization awarded an Osceola military wife for work she’s doing for new military families in the area.
Homes for Heroes gave Crystalyn Parsons, who runs the local Family Readiness Group, an award for National Military Spouse Appreciation Day.
“As a veteran I know that there’s a whole spouse and support of a family that really means a lot,” Jim McKinnies, with Homes for Heroes, said to Parsons. “On behalf of a grateful community and Homes for Heroes we want to present you with a couple of things.”
Parsons received gifts from local businesses and a special plaque from the organization.
“I don’t do it for those kinds of things,” she said. “I do it for, I do it for just to feel like we have a family while we’re you know away from our families.”
Parsons helps new military families in the county get acclimated, by finding realtors, family doctors, and area schools. She also helps plan events that create life long friendships between people thousands or hundreds of miles away from home.
“I think she deserves this award because she’s my rock,” said US Army 1st Sergeant Nicholas Parsons. “She supports me, I know anywhere and everywhere I go my family is taken care of.”
