Local Special Olympics group heading to Terre Haute to compete

PLYMOUTH, Ind. -- Special Olympics Indiana Marshall and Starke Counties will be sending over 30 athletes to Terre Haute to compete in the annual Special Olympics Indiana Summer Games.
Athletes have been practicing for over eight weeks in their sports and will compete in swimming, track and field, powerlifting, and teams bowling. They will be staying on campus at Indiana State University and Rose Hulman while they compete in their sports.
Over 2,000 Special Olympics athletes from across Indiana will travel to Terre Haute this weekend to compete.
"The St. Joseph County Police Department is proud to once again support our local Special Olympics athletes as they head to the Indiana Summer Games in Terre Haute," the SJCPD said.
"[Thursday] evening, officers will provide a police escort for the athletes’ departure, showing our community’s support and celebrating their hard work and dedication."

- Time: Gathering at 5:30 PM | Departure at approximately 6:00 PM
- Route: South on Logan Street → West on Dragoon Trail → South on Ironwood Road → US-20 Bypass
“This is the least we could do for these athletes. They deserve it all — and more,” said Sheriff Bill Redman.
