Local students compete in Spring Spelling Bee

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Saturday’s Spring Spelling Bee at Notre Dame offered up quite a challenge to area youth.

Students in 4th, 5th, and 6th grades from across Michiana lined up to spell in the annual bee at the Eck Visitor's Center.

Of course, not everyone can win, but Saturday’s spellers certainly got a chance to practice for the upcoming district bee.

Benjamin, a student from LaSalle Academy spelled his way to victory today. The winner from each first round spell-off won tickets to the Notre Dame Blue-Gold game.

Benjamin and the 2nd and 3rd place winners received additional prizes including gift cards to purchase books at their school library.
