MISHAWAKA, Ind. - A local woman is marking a major milestone, celebrating her 100th birthday with family and friends in Mishawaka on Wednesday.

Fern Neubaugher was born and raised on a farm in Iowa. True to her upbringing, she and her late husband, Paul, raised hogs and grew corn together.

The two were married for 73 years before he died from COVID-19. Together, the two had four children, two of whom died in an accident. Their remaining children went on to give the Neubaughers’ five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Fern and Paul loved to dance together, and according to those close to them, they were great at it!

After the kids left home, Fern trained to be an X-ray technician at a nearby hospital.

What’s Fern’s secret to life, you may ask? No smoking, no drinking and Mary Kay cosmetics for beautiful skin.

Happy birthday, Fern!
