Long Beach Police mourning loss of deputy who died Monday

LONG BEACH, Ind. - The Long Beach Police Department is mourning the loss of Deputy Tobin “Toby” Babcock, who died on Monday.

He died peacefully in his sleep while on vacation with family in Orlando, Florida.

Deputy Babcock began his career in law enforcement 25 years ago at the La Porte County Sheriff's Office.

In 2005, he was hired by the Long Beach Police Department and served the community for 17 years.

Funeral arrangements are scheduled for early next week.

The members of the Long Beach Police Department, our hearts are heavy today and we are extremely saddened to share that Deputy Tobin “Toby” Babcock passed away today peacefully in his sleep while with family members in Orlando Florida while on vacation. Our most sincere thoughts and prayers are with the family of Deputy Babcock during this difficult time. Deputy Babcock began his Law Enforcement career 25 years ago at the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Department. Deputy Babcock was hired at the Long Beach Police Department on July 28th 2005 and served the Long Beach community with the utmost pride, professionalism, and dedication for the past 17 years. As we mourn the loss of Deputy Babcock please take a moment to keep the family of Deputy Babcock in your thoughts and prayers. Deputy Babcock and his family will always be in our thoughts and prayers. He will be forever in our memories and we appreciate his friendship, dedication to the law enforcement profession, and the public service to the Long Beach community.

Root Funeral home will be handling the funeral arrangements and that services are tentatively scheduled for early next week. As we learn more we will update everyone. Thank you from our LBPD Family.
