Longtime Benton Harbor resident announces campaign for mayor

BENTON HARBOR, Mich. - Longtime Benton Harbor resident Gwen Johnson announced her campaign for mayor Monday evening.

Johnson is a graduate of Benton Harbor High School and is heavily involved in the community.

In recent years, Johnson has hosted a number of events in the city, including the first-ever Social Justice Ball in November 2022, the March for Justice and Peace in May and June of 2020 and founded the S.H.A.R.P. Foundation in 2018.

“I have a special love for our great city of Benton Harbor," said Johnson. I have a passion to see it thrive, especially our inner city and our youth. We need someone in the place of power who is going to advocate on behalf of our community with love, dignity and respect for our community.”

The public is invited to a meet and greet hosted by Johnson's campaign at Soul's Ground Café on February 17 from 6 to 8 p.m.
