Luncheon benefits youth scouting program

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Notre Dame football Head Coach Brian Kelly was the guest speaker Tuesday afternoon at the Mayors' Luncheon for Scouting.

The luncheon brought in money to help fund Boy Scout camp scholarships, after-school programs and financial aid for at-risk kids in the community.

"What we found is scouts today, just like always, join to have fun. They don't join to have their character developed or learn citizenship or help with service projects. The scouting will build that in these young people that they may not get elsewhere and it really makes a difference," said Patrick Bridges, Scout Executive CEO.

Several Michiana mayors were at Tuesday's luncheon including the mayor of Mishawaka, South Bend, Nappanee, and Plymouth.
