Mactoberfest returns to downtown South Bend for its second year

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Mactober Fest is back for its second year in downtown South Bend, and it’s bringing with it some of the best mac and cheese dishes in the area.

Fifteen South Bend restaurants are going head-to-head competing for the title of South Bend's Best Mac and Cheese.

But despite the friendly battle, the owner of Peggs Peg Dalton says this event is truly about bringing the restaurants together.

"We like to build one another up. It's important to collaborate and support one another, which I don't think you see in other places in this area," Dalton said.

The second annual Mactober Fest will kick off Wednesday from 5 to 9 p.m. Participants will have the opportunity to sample mac and cheese from the 15 participating restaurants with a beer.

Attendees will then vote to decide the winners in categories like the Best Mac and Cheese, Best Pairing, and Most Creative dish.

Tickets are still available, but today is the last day to purchase them—$45 per person for mac and cheese with accompanied beer pairings, or $25 per person for food-only options.

"This is an event where you can see several places and be reminded of all the great places we have going on downtown," Dalton said.
