Major progress is being made at the former Pierre Moran Mall

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. - New developments could revitalize the former Pierre Moran Mall, which has been vacant since Sears closed their doors in 2017.

The city is hoping to turn the 109,000 square foot complex into a Neighborhood Opportunity Hub.

Heart City Health, and Elkhart-based healthcare provider, and Goodwill came together to purchase the former Sears building in October, and they have independent plans to make new use of the space.

Goodwill will use their half of the complex to house the Excel Center High School for Adults, The Academy: Career and Technical Education Program, workforce development services, and a nurse-family partnership working with first-time mothers.

Meanwhile, Heart City Health's portion of the building will give them another location to provide care to Elkhart. The complex will allow them to provide 24-hour care on top of dental and optical services.

The new plans for the facility are in line with their ambitions outlined in the city's 2040 plan.
