ELKHART, Ind. -- A man allegedly shot himself in the leg while cleaning his gun, according to Elkhart Police.

Police were dispatched to a home on Goshen Avenue Wednesday evening to investigate a shooting.

When they arrived, they found a man with a gunshot wound to the upper leg.

He was taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The initial investigation revealed the man accidentally shot himself while cleaning his gun.

The gun was taken into evidence.

The incident remains under investigation.
