Man accused of beating, choking three-year-old in South Bend
SOUTH BEND, Ind. - One man has been charged with battery and strangulation for allegedly abusing a three-year-old child in South Bend, according to the probable cause affidavit. Two others are charged with neglect and false informing.
Dorian Leaver, 22, was given the two charges on January 25, after police were called to investigate a child with a broken arm and several bruises on his body.
Leaver originally told police the victim broke his arm after falling down a set of steps but later admitted to lying, according to police reports.
During the investigation, police learned Leaver broke the three-year-old's arm the day before, on January 24, and has choked the child several times, the most recent being the same day he broke the victim’s arm.
Leaver also admitted to slapping the child several times and grabbing him aggressively, causing bruising, police reported.
Two witnesses to the incident, 22-year-olds Amy Jackson and Ian Gosnell, said they saw Leaver do these things to the child and told him to stop but didn’t physically try to stop him. Both originally said the child broke his arm falling down steps but later admitted to lying. They also admitted to seeing other instances of abuse by Leaver, according to police reports.
Jackson and Gosnell said they’ve also slapped the victim across the face several times, police reported.
