Man accused of damaging ATM, stealing cash
MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. -- A man has been charged with theft and criminal mischief for allegedly damaging an ATM while attempting to steal cash from it, according to the Michigan City Police Department.
On October 9, Michigan City Police responded to the First Trust Credit Union on E. US20 for reports of theft from an ATM.
Police learned the ATM had been deemed a total loss due to the damage to the machine.
An audit was conducted to determine the amount of cash stolen from the machine.
Video surveillance from the machine assisted in the identification of the suspect and vehicle used in the crime, police said.
The suspect's vehicle was located the following day, and a suspect was identified.
Police served a search warrant at a home on Chickadee Drive and seized a large amount of evidence. They also seized the vehicle and recovered additional evidence from inside the vehicle, police said.
On October 12, Malik Bunch, 25, of Hammond, was charged with theft and misdemeanor criminal mischief.
