Man accused of firing shots at vehicle near Cheers Pub

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. - A man was arrested after he allegedly fired shots at another vehicle outside of Cheers Pub, according to the probable cause affidavit.

Sarod Frison, Jr., was arrested on the charges of unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, pointing a firearm at another, and criminal recklessness committed with a deadly weapon.

On November 12, officers were called to Cheers, located in the 100 block of S. Dixie Way in Roseland, for a shots fired report.

Police found broken auto glass in the road and three 9mm casings near the intersection of Dixie Way and Pendle Street.

A Cheers employee told police he was sitting at the bar when he heard at least three shots being fired. He then saw a dark sedan-style vehicle leave the area immediately after the shots, reports said.

Another employee said he was at the front security booth when he reported seeing a flash and heard a shot. He told everyone to get down and then heard what sounded like four more shots, according to reports.

The second employee said the shooter/shooters were in a blue- or black-colored Chevrolet.

One man at the scene said he and his friend were talking to women at the bar and asked them if they wanted to leave with them.

As they spoke to the women, two unidentified men became angry, according to the man.

When the man and his friend left the bar, the two other men allegedly followed them.

The man said one of the alleged suspects, who he believed had dreadlocks, fired shots at them. They also said one of their vehicles had been hit.

The second victim told officers he and his friend thought the women were being forced to leave with the two suspects, reports said.

When his friend went to check on the women, it appeared to make the suspects mad, the second victim said.

The victims left the bar and got into a green Chevrolet Suburban with another friend.

As the victims drove away, shots were fired at them, one of the victims reported.

Officers found what appeared to be a bullet defect on the outside of the Suburban. The defect was consistent with being hit by a 9mm projectile, police said.

Police saw that the Suburban's back window seem to have been shot out, according to reports.

Surveillance footage in the area captured a man enter Cheers at 2:02 a.m.

The man's license, which was scanned at the door, came back as belonging to Sarod Frison, Jr., who was found to have active warrants out of Michigan and Ohio, police said.

At 2:50 a.m., Frison was seen on camera leaving the bar and speaking with a woman.

Video then shows Frison speak with someone in a Chevrolet Suburban.

After the exchange, Frison gets in the driver's seat of a dark-colored vehicle. The vehicle pulls out of the bar's parking lot and next to a silver sedan.

As the Suburban pulls out of the parking lot, shots are fired, reports said.

During the investigation, police learned Frison was the registered owner of a black 2012 Chevrolet Impala.

On November 22, officers with the South Bend Police Department found a black Impala in the area of Lincolnway and Adams Street.

The Impala had been stopped and Frison was put into custody on his outstanding warrants.

In police custody, Frison told police he was at Cheers Pub at the time of the shooting.

Frison said he went to Cheers alone in the Impala. He flirted with a woman and when he left the bar, he helped the same woman look for her keys.

While he was helping her, Frison said a green Suburban with multiple people inside pulled up next to him.

The driver of the Suburban got out of the vehicle holding a gun and asked the woman if she was okay, Frison said.

Frison then got into his Impala by himself and pulled up next to a silver car he thought was with the driver of the Suburban.

He reported hearing shots being fired but didn't see who was firing them, according to reports.

None of the surveillance video captured shots coming from the Suburban, only from Frison's Impala, the probable cause affidavit states.
