Man accused of leading Sturgis officers on chase

STURGIS, Mich. - A 30-year-old man was arrested on Sunday after allegedly taking control of a vehicle and leading police on a chase, the Sturgis Department of Public Safety announced.

At 10:47 p.m., Sturgis Public Safety officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation near Griffith Street and Franks Avenue.

While speaking with the driver outside of the vehicle, the passenger of the vehicle allegedly took control of the vehicle and drove away.

Officers followed the vehicle as it traveled north out of Sturgis.

The suspect eventually got out of the vehicle and ran, reports said.

A K9 officer tracked the suspect through fields, trails, and a wooded area before capturing him.

The suspect was taken to the St. Joseph County Jail on the charges of fleeing and eluding, resisting and obstructing, unlawful driving away of an automobile, and multiple outstanding warrants.
