Man accused of University Park Mall shooting arraigned

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- The man accused of shooting a woman sitting in a vehicle in the parking lot of the University Park Mall was arraigned Thursday on charges related to the shooting and a separate robbery.

Joshua Villanueva-Rose was arraigned on charges of attempted armed robbery, armed robbery, battery with a deadly weapon and carrying a handgun without a license.

He is accused of committing an armed robbery at the Walmart in Mishawaka and an attempted robbery in the parking lot of the UP Mall on March 26. During the UP Mall incident, the victim was shot in the chest.

In court, prosecutors said Villanueva-Rose was on probation for domestic battery and strangulation and had just met with his probation officer prior to the robberies.

Prosecutors asked the judge to set bond at $100,000, but instead the judge set it at $175,000.

His next court date is scheduled for April 10.

Because he is on probation, if he posts bond, there will be a 15 day hold.

Police confirm they are looking for additional suspects related to the robberies.
