ELKHART, Ind. – A man reported being shot in the leg after picking up a gun Thursday night, the Elkhart Police Department reported.

At 9:50 p.m., an officer was called to the 600 block of East Boulevard for a report that a man had been shot in the leg while walking in an alley.

The caller said he was walking from the 1300 block of Concord Avenue to the 28000 block of Fieldhouse Avenue when he walked through an alley north of Lusher Avenue.

While in the alley, the man allegedly picked up a gun that unintentionally went off, shooting him in the leg, reports said.

The caller’s injuries do not appear to be life-threatening, police reported.

This incident is still under investigation.
