Man arrested after breaking into doctors office

STEVENSVILLE, Mich. -- An 18-year-old St. Joseph, Michigan, man was taken into custody after he allegedly broke into a doctor’s office in Lincoln Township Monday around 11 p.m.

According to Lincoln Charter Township Police, a physician’s assistant was working alone at Dr. Frederick Born’s office on Cleveland Road Monday night when she heard breaking glass and a man yelling.

The woman hid under her desk, called 911 and stayed on the line until police arrived.

Officers found the man, identified as Karrington James Penny, in the reception area of the office covered in blood. He was apparently injured when he broke through the front door.

Officers attempted to take Penny into custody and he resisted. He was tased and then taken into custody.

Penny was transported to the hospital, then to the Berrien County Jail on charges of breaking and entering and resisting arrest and damage to property.

According to the investigation, police say Penny didn’t remember what happened.

Witnesses saw a vehicle stop in front of the doctor’s office, then saw a man get out of the vehicle and run into the front door of the doctor’s office. The vehicle then left the scene.
