Man arrested following shooting near Carlise, Huron streets

UPDATE: On March 18, 2024, the charges of Criminal Recklessness committed with a deadly weapon and Unlawful Carrying of a Handgun were both dismissed, and Ramirez reached a plea agreement on the charge of Pointing a Firearm at Another that saw him sentenced to a year in jail, with credit for three days served and the remaining 362 days suspended. 

Ramirez will be on a probationary period for 727 days.


SOUTH BEND, Ind. - 45-year-old Roberto Ramirez has been arrested and charged after a shootout occurred on South Bend's west side on Friday, September 15. 

This shootout came a day before a Saturday shooting with four wounded victims in the same area. 

During a large outdoor gathering on Friday, police responded to calls regarding multiple shots fired near Carlise and Huron streets. 

Later, Ramirez arrived at Memorial Hospital, with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds. 

After an investigation and processing of evidence, the Violent Crimes Unit determined Ramirez was at the shootout and fired his weapon upon a large group of people. 

On Tuesday, September 19 he was charged with Criminal Recklessness with a Deadly Weapon and Unlawful Carrying of a Handgun. 

Ramirez is currently being held at the St. Joseph County Jail.
