Man arrested for dealing in cocaine after running from authorities

LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. -- The La Porte County Sheriff's Office reports a deputy along I-94 was monitoring eastbound traffic near the 29-mile-marker Tuesday afternoon when they observed a red passenger vehicle following a commercial motor vehicle too closely.
The report states the deputy then followed the vehicle which continued to follow the CMV too closely through a construction zone.
The deputy initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle around 2:48 p.m. on US 421 south of C.R. 400 North. The driver identified himself as 45-year-old Donyell Mayhew of Michigan City.
During the stop, a Michigan City Police Department officer arrived to assist.
A narcotics K-9 was deployed around the vehicle for a free-air sniff, to which it made a positive alert.
While the vehicle was being searched, authorities say Mayhew fled on foot.
Mayhew was apprehended nearby.
The report states when vehicle search resumed, the deputy found two bags of a white compressed substance.
Mayhew was arrested for Dealing in Cocaine, a Level 2 Felony.
He remains housed in the La Porte County Jail without bond. He was already out on bond.
