Man arrested in South Bend for felony Child Molesting

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- On Friday, the St. Joseph County Police Department arrested a Mishawaka man on charges of felony Child Molesting after a 2-year-old was hospitalized on March 17.
Police reports state that 23-year-old Christian Barrier was charged for an incident that allegedly involved inappropriate conduct with the child during a diaper changing
Early the next morning, the victim woke up crying and the mother found blood in her diaper. They immediately went to the hospital where medical staff informed police of a possible sexual assault.
The victim underwent a forensic exam and a sexual assault evidence kit.
The Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner at the hospital informed police the victim showed injuries to their genitals.
Police later confronted Barrier at his work, and he agreed to speak with investigators about the incident. Barrier was then read his Miranda Rights.
Barrier told police he "accidentally poked" the victim in the genitals.
Documents show Barrier told police he didn't tell the child's mother about it because he feared how they would react or what they would say.
The report states Barrier was located and arrested in the 4100 block of Lathrop Street in South Bend.
Barrier was taken to the St. Joseph County Jail where he remains in custody.
