Man charged in connection with death of ISP trooper in Fort Wayne

DEKALB COUNTY, Ind. - A man has been charged with murder in connection with the death of Indiana State Police Master Trooper James Bailey on March 3, according to the Dekalb County Prosecutor's Office.

Terry Sands II was charged with murder, felony resisting law enforcement, operating with a controlled substance resulting in death and misdemeanor resisting law enforcement.

According to reports, Master Trooper Bailey was working traffic on I-69 when he became aware of a police pursuit south of him.

Bailey tried to help with the pursuit and was out of his vehicle when Sands was in the area.

Sands intentionally turned his car directly toward Bailey, striking and killing him, according to the prosecutor's office.

This is an ongoing investigation.
