SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- A suspect is in custody for allegedly shooting a gun at moving vehicles in South Bend.

This happened July 28 in the area of Nimtz Parkway and Bendix Drive; this was one of three high-profile shootings reported in the city that day. Officers were called on reports of a man firing a gun at passing cars.

Officers found 45-year-old Shaun Norton at the scene. South Bend police officials say officers found a gun in his pocket.

One witness told officers he had seen Norton pointing a gun at cars and firing across four lanes of traffic.

Norton allegedly told officers he owned the gun but did not fire it; he allegedly said the gun had been unloaded for more than a week. Officials say officers recovered four spent shell casings near the scene.

After being taken to St. Joseph County Jail, staff reported that a baggie containing a clear substance fell from Norton's underwear during the search. Officials say the substance field-tested positive for methamphetamine and fentanyl.

Norton faces two charges of Criminal Recklessness, two charges of Pointing a Firearm, and one charge of Possession of Methamphetamine.
