Man charged with drug and firearm-related offenses after hit-and-run
La Porte County Jail LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. -- A 30-year-old man was charged with Unlawful Carrying of a Firearm alongside a variety of drug-related charges after an alleged drunken hit-and-run on May 15.
Jacob Gilmore is charged with Unlawful Carrying of a Handgun with prior felony conviction as a Level 5 Felony and Possession of a Narcotic Drug as a Level 6 Felony.
Gilmore was also charged with a variety of misdemeanors including Unlawful Carrying of a Handgun, Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated Endangering a Person, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated, Possession of Paraphernalia, and Possession of Marijuana.
According to the probable cause affidavit, Gilmore is believed to have disregarded a stop sign at the intersection of Greenwood Avenue and Franklin Street around 6 a.m., Friday, May 15, leading to a crash he then continued driving from.
Gilmore was found in his pickup truck unresponsive before officers woke him, performed several field sobriety tests, and determined he had a firearm.
Gilmore allegedly possessed trace amounts of a white powdery substance testing positive for fentanyl and confessed under oath to the above charged misdemeanors.
Gilmore also had a prior charge of Domestic Battery in March and a prior conviction of Possession of Methamphetamine as a Level 5 Felony in 2022.
Gilmore has already had his initial hearing. His next hearing is set for Thursday, July 9.
