ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. – At around 5 a.m. Sunday morning, officers responded to a 911 call in the 2200 block of Morehouse.
Officers were advised by the caller that they could hear a woman screaming.
As officers arrived, dispatch advised that the suspect was leaving in a SUV.
Officers located the SUV and pursued the vehicle.
According to Elkhart Police, the vehicle disregarded the railroad crossing at Main St. and Middlebury St. The vehicle then collided with a parked car before colliding with a landscape planter.
The suspect then struck the Post Office at 601 S. Main St. The driver of the SUV was unresponsive and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Detectives from the Elkhart County Homicide Unit are currently working the case.
