Merrillville, Ind. – Indiana State Police reported a man died early Sunday morning when he crashed his motorcycle into a pick-up truck on I-65.

Michael Derby, 26, was north bound on I-65 in the right lane, north of Merrillville-US 30 exit, on a 2018 Yamaha motorcycle.

Zachary Goldak, 20, was also north bound on I-65 in the middle lane in a 2016 Ford F-150.

Derby was speeding when he drifted over into the middle lane and struck the right rear of the F-150, which caused him to lose control of the motorcycle.

Derby struck the guard rail on the right side and came to a stop on the right shoulder, and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lake County Coroner's office.

The motorcycle slid across I-65 going northwest and came to a stop on the left shoulder approximately 500 feet from the scene of the crash.

Goldak was not injured in the incident.

Police are waiting for toxicology reports to come back at this time.
