Man dies in Shipshewana house fire

LAGRANGE COUNTY, Ind. - One man is dead following a house fire in Shipshewana Monday morning, according to the LaGrange County Sheriff’s Office.

Emergency crews responded to the scene around 7 a.m.

The fire appeared to have started on the lower level of the home. Two men were living in the house at the time.

First responders were able to help one of the men out of the house but the second man, identified as 54-year-old Darin Smith, did not make it out and was later pronounced dead from smoke inhalation.

At this time, investigators believe the fire was accidental and did not find any signs of foul play.
