Man and his dog pass away following moped crash near SR-19
ELKHART COUNTY, Ind.—A man and a dog passed away following a crash on SR 19, the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday.
Henry Wrightsman Jr., 47, of Elkhart, was pronounced deceased on May 1 at 11:10 a.m. after sustaining head and leg injuries in a crash on April 30.
According to police, around 4:30 p.m. on April 30, Wrightsman was traveling on a private drive, approaching SR-19, in a 2013 Tao Moped without a helmet on.
The moped was involved in a crash with a 2002 Ford F150 when it started to enter the road, just north of CR-38. The Ford swerved to avoid it but ultimately the two vehicles crashed.
Police said the Moped was totaled and a dog belonging to Wrightsman was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Wrightsman was taken to the hospital to receive treatment for his injuries.
The other driver was taken to the hospital for nausea.
