Man electrocuted installing metal tower

CASS COUNTY, Mich. -- A man was killed and his son injured when the metal tower they were attempting to install touched power lines.


The incident happened around 6:30 p.m. Thursday at a home in the 30000 block of Middle Crossing Road in Silver Creek Township.


When Cass County deputies arrived, they found Jonathon Curtis performing CPR on his father, Timothy Curtis. There was also an unidentified juvenile present.


Deputies learned Jonathon, Timothy and the juvenile were attempting to put up a metal TV tower when it hit the power lines. Timothy and Jonathan were knocked unconscious.


The juvenile was not injured and called 9-1-1.


Jonathon regained consciousness and conducted CPR on his father. Deputies took over when they arrived.


Timothy could not be revived and was pronounced dead at the scene.


Jonathan was taken to Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo. He is stable.


The incident remains under investigation.
