Man faces new felony charges a year after release from prison due to alleged misconduct by prosecutor's office

Tyre Bradbury

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- A probable cause affidavit by the South Bend Police Department Major Crimes Unit revealed 26-year-old Tyre Bradbury has been charged with Battery by Means of a Deadly Weapon, a Level 5 Felony, and Pointing a Firearm at Another, a Level 6 Felony, a little over a year after a plea agreement was reached which saw an Aggravated Battery charge dismissed and his release from prison due to allegations of misconduct by the prosecutor's office and the now-disbanded St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit.

Bradbury's first plea agreement had his 60-year Murder sentence cut to 20 years for Aggravated Battery.

The affidavit states on Dec. 25, 2024, at around 8 p.m. a man told police he was assaulted after being struck in the face with a handgun by an unknown man.

The victim told police the suspect, later identified as Bradbury, was brought to his home by a former friend.

The victim told police he'd agreed to store his former friend's car due to a domestic dispute. The former friend then revealed to the victim that the car was stolen, which caused the victim to move the car to the street.

On Dec. 25, 2024, the former friend arrived at the victim's house upset and said he wanted his car keys. Bradbury was with him.

Documents state the victim exited his home to speak with the former friend and Bradbury when he was struck in the face twice with the handgun.

The victim said that's when Bradbury pointed the gun at his head. The former friend told Bradbury, "Don't pop him!"

The victim said he'd never met Bradbury before that night.

After the assault, the former friend and Bradbury left in the former friend's vehicle.
