Man flees scene after crashing car into pole, trapping passenger

South bend police are looking for a man who they say fled the scene after crashing into a pole across from the YMCA. The crash trapped the front seat passenger, who is in the hospital with serious, but not life threatening injuries. It also left the backseat passenger, who was found leaving the scene, with minor injuries.

First responders arrived to the scene shortly after 1 a.m. It took them about a half hour to pull the front passenger out of the car.

Investigators believe the car was speeding too fast around the area near the corner of Northside Boulevard and Louise street, hit the curb and lost control, smacking right into the pole.

Lt. Noonan of the South Bend police department says his crew is trying to find out who the vehicle was registered to.
