Man found deceased Friday was involved in pursuit several days earlier
ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- The Elkhart County Sheriff's Office has released the identity of the man whose body was found near the 15200 block of CR 52 Friday afternoon.
The man has been identified as 28-year-old Myles Owens.
His preliminary manner of death is accidental, according to the Elkhart County Coroner.
Deputies say Owens was the suspect in a vehicle pursuit on February 9 at 3:12 a.m.
Deputies were attempting to stop his vehicle for speeding. They lost sight of his vehicle, but located it abandoned in a field some time later, reports said.
After searching for Owens, officers left the scene and impounded the vehicle.
On February 13, the Noble County Sheriff's Office contacted the Elkhart County Sheriff's Department after Owens was reported missing.
Officers returned to the area and conducted searches using an unmanned aerial vehicle and searched a pond using an underwater unmanned vehicle, but did not locate Owens.
On February 15, deputies were notified of a person down near 15200 CR 52 and located Owens.
Deputies say he is connected to the vehicle involved in the incident. The Elkhart County Homicide Unit is continuing the investigation.
