Man found guilty of injuring 19-month-old child

PULASKI COUNTY, Ind. -- A jury returned a guilty verdict just one hour after beginning deliberations in a child abuse case, according to the Pulaski County Prosecutor's Office.

Coltyn Tousley, 26, was found guilty of neglect of a dependent resulting in serious bodily injury and domestic battery resulting in bodily injury.

In June 2019, a Department of Child Services caseworker had an appointment to see the victim, but Tousley and the victim did not appear at the specified time and place.

The case worker drove throughout Pulaski County to try to locate the victim. When the case worker finally made contact with Tousley, he said he missed the appointment because the victim did not look like herself, court documents said.

When the case worker saw the victim, she had severe bruising and swelling in her face.

The child was taken to the emergency department at the hospital.

Tousley said he and the victim fell together and that's what caused the bruising. He also said he might have hit her once, reports said.

At trial, a doctor testified the injuries to the victim's face were due to multiple blunt force trauma.

Tousley will be sentenced November 2.
