Man identified in Dowagiac Area Federal Credit Union robbery

The man wanted as a suspect in a March armed bank robbery is now identified.

29-year-old Don Smith died during a shootout with police after he fled the scene of a robbery in Illinois with a hostage in his car on April 10.

Smith was pursued from Illinois to Indiana after the robbery with the hostage before carjacking a second vehicle.

Luckily, the hostage was able to escape before Smith was shot.

Surveillance video of the March 19th shooting at the Dowagiac Area Federal Credit Union show Smith pulling out a gun and demanding cash in broad daylight.

Smith was later a person of interest after several units shared information on other local robberies.

No one was injured in that robbery.
