Man injured in boating accident on St. Joe River

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- An Osceola man suffered a head injury when he was thrown from a boat on the St. Joseph River.


The Indiana Department of Natural Resources reports 57-year-old James Gaugler was a passenger in a 16-foot boat when it struck a large board floating in the river.


When the boat struck the board, the boat came to a stop. Gaugler was thrown against the motor and then out of the boat.


Gaugler suffered a 6-8-inch gash when his head struck the motor.


Gaugler was not wearing a personal floatation device when the accident happened.


He was taken to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center. He is stable.
