Man pistol-whipped on South Bend's West side

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- ABC 57 was the only TV news crew at Sam's Food Market on Lincoln Way West and Lawndale after a man was pistol-whipped.

Officers said the victim didn't know the guy who came up and hit him in the head with a gun. The incident took place just before 7 o'clock. The 24-year-old victim was taken to Memorial Hospital with a gash to his head.

He said he didn't know the person that did this to him, and didn't know why. The thug was able to get away.

The incident comes on the heels of an armed robbery last night in parking lot of Sam's Food Market.
