Man sentenced on sexual misconduct with a minor charge

ST JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- A former Notre Dame dining center employee was sentenced on a charge of sexual misconduct with a minor.

Jose Cortes pleaded guilty in February to one count of sexual misconduct with a minor. As part of the plea agreement, one count of sexual misconduct with a minor and one count of incest were dismissed.

Cortes was sentenced to 5 years in prison with 10 days class B credit for time served.

Once he is released from prison, he must register as a sex offender.

Cortes was charged in November 2017 for inappropriately touching a relative under the age of 16.

The victim told investigators Cortes touched her 'private parts' multiple times at her home and at a business in Elkhart, according to the probable cause affidavit.

Cortes was an employee of Notre Dame's dining center at the time of his arrest and was placed on leave. He no longer works for the university.
